Pearl Academy of Fashion recently supported a newly set up Sewa Polytechnic by designing education programmes for them. Dr A K G Nair, Group Director of Pearl Academy of Fashion and US Ambassador Timothy J Roemer were invited as the Guests of Honour and inaugurated the SEWA Polytechnic.
Pearl Academy of Fashion will design modules for the students in Embroidery and Garment Manufacturing Techniques under this initiative. The duration of each course is six months. With the help of these modules the students will be learning stitching techniques to enhance their abilities and skills which will further consolidate their competence in this advanced and career oriented world. The faculty members of PAF will mentor the people of Polytechnic for giving them pertinent training and information on the subjects.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr A K G Nair said, “We are extremely happy to be a part of setting up this Polytechnic for poor young girls. This Polytechnic would provide them an opportunity to learn advanced skills, so that they can earn a decent living and lead a respectable life after their training from the polytechnic.”
SEWA Bharat is a federation of SEWA members with the mandate to highlight issues concerning women in the informal sector and to strengthen the capacity of the organisation to serve the interests of these women. Currently SEWA Bharat member’s organisations are working in nine states in India with 1.2 million women workers and their families.
